Life in Retirement - Quilting #2
Back to Life in Retirement
By Debby Conderan
I learned to sew when I was young but quilting is the way to explore my creativity. Now I don’t just have a needle and thread, I have a computer and sewing machine that help design amazing patterns. It’s a perfect blend of art and technology.
I find it soothing to sit at my machine or to hand sew and watch a quilt develop before my eyes. I love the luscious colour palettes there are today. I don’t really know a lot about colour, but I know what I like and fabric stores provide collections of fabric that are designed to go together and help me take the guess work and worry out of blending. It’s fun to pick fabrics and work with them and watch them come together into a finished quilt.
And now that I’m retired I get to sew and quilt whenever I want. I always have a variety of projects in a drawer or cupboard so I can pick and choose whatever I feel like. Finishing one of the projects is a great feeling of accomplishment.
