About Us
We are retired women
educators who have joined together to form a professional organization
called the Retired Women Teachers of Ontario/Organisation des
enseignantes retraitées de l'Ontario. The purpose of our organization is
to provide fellowship, friendship and support to retired women
educators.
Our organization has about 4000 members
organized into 46 local branches
throughout Ontario. Each branch develops programs and activities that
best meet the diverse interests of its members.
Our History
RWTO/OERO was formed
in 1956 as the Ontario Association of Superannuated Women Teachers of
Ontario (OASWT), by a small group of retired women
educators in Toronto known as the Rendezvous Club. Their purpose
in forming the organization was to persuade the Ontario Government to
raise the level of pensions for retired women
educators to the same level as their male colleagues.
In the following years, many new Branches were formed. In 1967, they
became successful advocates of pension reform. It was our group which
gave rise to the formation of RTO/ERO, the group which represents both
retired women and men educators. As RWTO/OERO
and RTO/ERO meet different needs, many retired women
educators belong to both organizations.
RWTO/OERO Mississauga Branch
Our Mississauga Branch
was formed in the year 1981-1982. Currently, we have over 350 members
and continue to grow. We provide our members with the caring, sharing
and friendly association of other women with common interests. We
maintain a strong communication network within the membership and
provide a variety of opportunities for social and intellectual pursuits.
Benefits of Membership
We are retired but not retiring! Here are some of the reasons why you
should join our branch.
Renew acquaintances
and form new friendships through a variety of interest groups and
activities such as Hiking, Crafts, Movies, Bridge and Photography.
Join friends for regular General Meetings and Luncheons. A
varied program of entertainment is arranged for each luncheon meeting.
Enjoy an excursion or
theatre outing. These are planned throughout the year and are open to
all members and their guests.
Support local
charities through our fundraising initiatives. Our branch focus is on
the well being of women and children.
Receive support
especially in times of illness, loneliness, stress and loss.
Insurance
RWTO/OERO has Insurance Plans that have been designed for retired women
educators and their spouses. The plans offer benefits often not covered
by other plans.
These plans are only available to RWTO/OERO members in good
standing.
So join the fun and make RWTO/OERO Mississauga one of your associations
in retirement.
